What digital platforms are students currently using to develop their professional network?

Currently, students are using platforms like Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and even TikTok to develop their professional network. Even though a couple of these platforms are usually used for personal accounts, many are using them to start new businesses and connect with others to network.

What could the student consider in expanding their professional learning network?

When trying to expand ones professional learning network, it is important to utilize these platforms and join social groups, follow relevant content, and make friends in similar fields. Also posting things that are relevant to their professional interests could help their account gain attention and find people with similar interests.

How does data privacy and security limit and/or promote a PLN?

Data privacy and security limits PLN’s because often there are breaches in peoples privacy online and this can cause a lack of trust when it comes to networking online. Sometimes people are afraid to connect with others online due to the fear of their information being leaked or people who are cat-fishing (people who claim to be someone they are not). This makes it harder to connect with individuals with similar interests when there is a constant fear of the other person’s real intentions.

In your network how can you create a digital identity/ reputation?

Everything that you post, comment, like, and follow all becomes a part of your digital identity. Depending on the reputation an individual would like to carry with them, they might consider posting and sharing things related to who they are trying to portray on the internet.

Consider how an employer would respond if you applied for a job with them and they assessed your social media presence via your digital identity:

I believe my digital identity reflects who I am and my values pretty well. I don’t have anything on my social media that I wouldn’t want an employer to see.
