What is only possible when face-to-face?

  • Hands-on learning in the classroom: Things like labs, experiments, and hands-on work usually need to be done in a class environment with the supervision of a teacher or professor.
  • Interacting with teachers/students in-person: For many, physically being with other people in person is super important to get the most out of their learning experience.

What is only possible when online?

  • Remote learning: Through online lectures or online classwork, you can learn from anywhere in the world!
  • Connecting with people worldwide: You can do group projects over zoom etc to collaborate with people all over the world.

What are the shared elements from both a face-to-face and online learning experience that create meaningful learning?

A shared element from both face-to-face and online learning experiences that create meaningful learning is technology. Multimedia makes learning more rich and more accessible for everyone. There are so many platforms that can be used in both online and face-to-face classrooms. Some examples include, Khan Academy, google classroom, and Canva. These three platforms serve different purposes but all have a shared goal of learning, creating, and posting through an online platform. Furthermore, we are seeing an increase in the use of technology in classrooms like labtops, ipads, smartboards, and more. It is this technology that allows students to further their knowledge both in a physical and digital classroom. An example from my personal learning experience is using powerpoint to create presentations to present face-to-face, and also using powerpoint to present in an online class. Another form of multimedia that creates meaningful learning.
